Audi Registers SQ5 and RSQ5 Names

A recent report has indicated that Audi trademarked both the SQ5 and RSQ5 names for a pair of upcoming trims. As such, Audi is planning for high-performance versions of their popular Q5. Audi has been giving increased attention to their RS line of cars as they hope to improve their presence in the US, where BMW's M division currently rules amongst German luxury brands. The arrival of the Audi TTRS later this year is also proof Audi plans to expand their performance cars for US buyers.

By registering the RSQ5 name, it's safe to assume that there will be a high-performance Q5 in the near future. The SQ5 name suggests that a mid-level sporty Q5 may also be in the works. This expansion of the RS lineup makes sense considering Audi parent company, VW Group, is looking to be the world's largest automaker by 2012. In order to help make this happen, it's important for their luxury brand to have increased sales numbers as well. Offering more high-performance trims will hopefully help make this happen.
