Audi Hybrid-Diesel Supercar is Dead

Supercars /57 Comments

For unspecified reasons, Audi has cancelled development of its potential hybrid-diesel supercar. You should be sad about this.

There have been rumors going around for a while that Audi was consideringbuilding a new supercarmore powerful than the R8. While they were just rumors, Audi didn't flat-out deny it was considering a production supercar based on the R18 race car that could compete at the level of, for example, the upcoming Porsche 918 Spyder. In addition, word had it that the unnamed supercar would feature a diesel-hybrid powertrain.

Unfortunately, Audi has now ditched those plans completely. No exact reason(s) were given as to why the project was cancelled, but our guess is that it was deemed too costly for a car that would have had a very limited production run. Fortunately, the German automaker has already明确的意图to build a production version of the 2010 Quattro Concept in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the original Quattro. On top of that, development of the next-generation R8 is in full swing with a targeted 2015 launch date. So it's not all doom and gloom for Audi fanboys.
