Atlantic City's Bader Field Racetrack: Is It Still Happening?

Scoop /1 Comment

We spoke to the developers to get the latest on the private, FIA-grade motoring fairground.

Earlier this year, Atlantic City's mayor signed a memorandum of understanding with DEEM Enterprises, which wanted to build anF1-ready racetrack on Bader Field. The general-use airfield has been closed since September 2006, and no new developments have occurred.

To learn more about the proposed development, including housing and free use of the track for residents, we spoke with DEEM Enterprises Chief Marketing Officer Eric Harryman.

Since we last reported on Renaissance at Bader Field, DEEM has done a three-month evaluation to see whether it would be suitable for an F1 track. It is, but as before, it won't be used in that way.

"World-renowned track engineer and designer Bob Barnard, known for Apex Motor Club and Monticello Motor Club, designed our Renaissance at Bader Field's track, which will be built to support FIA safety standards," said Harryman. "Renaissance at Bader Field will provide the ultimate experience for owners of high-performance cars to improve their driving and enjoy a safe and challenging experience. While this track is built to the highest FIA standards, it will not be used to host Formula 1 races."

DEEM has deemed (sorry) the area safe for the Renaissance track, a motor club, residential housing, a hotel, commercial space, restaurants, an upmarket automotive museum, and a marina with all sorts of watersports. The track will be the centerpiece, however.

It's worth noting that we've seen this kind of thing before. The Magarigawa Clubrecently opened in Japan. Locally, we have theConcours Club in Miami.CarBuzz还参观了革命制度党vate community-basedCircuit Floridaearlier this year, so this sort of thing is gaining popularity.

So what makes Renaissance at Bader Field different? "Renaissance at Bader Field elevates the traditional motor club experience by bringing it to a unique seaside urban setting in the heart of a city," said Harryman. "Bader Field itself is a historic and unique property that cannot be replicated. Plus, the track at Renaissance at Bader Field is designed by Bob Barnard, an international expert and the name behind many famous tracks."

The preliminary investigations also found that Bader Field would meet all the necessary requirements. "We have allocated significant resources to evaluating and preparing the land for future development. In coordination with the city, we have been working with two leaders in the engineering space to help guide DEEM's land preparation of Bader Field," said Harryman.

可以从d居民和顾客期望什么evelopment? "We have deliberately calculated the course's design to optimize the nature of the land with a focus on safety. To this end, our 2.44-mile track is a one-circuit layout," said Harryman. "The track will be distinctive, thrilling, and safe - this isn't just a loop. There are some high-speed sections and some unique corners to challenge the drivers. It has a bit of everything for every driver and skill set - not just for someone with a certain type of car."

That's excellent news. It means an automotive enthusiast can enjoy his entire car collection, from aLamborghini Huracan Tecnicato a barely-legal track toy like aBAC Mono R.

To date, DEEM has spent $25 million on architectural design, engineering, research, and development. The next step is to fund the memorandum of understanding period while paying outside companies for drilling and other requirements the facility will need. Colliers Engineering & Design and Dixon Associates Engineering are managing the soil analysis and testing, while Colliers is in charge of site investigations, including traffic studies and subsurface work.

"The team has been working together for four years, which has allowed us to adapt to the needs of Atlantic City and ensure the development is world-class," said Harryman.

After that, DEEM will purchase the land and begin construction on this impressive facility. According to Harryman, "no other location is next to the beach, by world-class gaming, casinos, and entertainment, near fine dining, with immediate and easy access to more than 100 million people in Philadelphia, New York City, and other metropolises along the Eastern Seaboard."

In summary, the project is still going forward, and no obvious hurdles to construction have yet come to light. We look forward to visiting the facility when it's done, but we'll keep you updated on developments until then.
