All-New BMW M2 Will Be Revealed This Year

2022 is a big year for the BMW M division because it marks the fifth decade since it was initiated by the Bavarian brand. It has already been understood that the highly anticipated BMW M4 CSL willmake its official appearanceat its 50th-anniversary celebrations but it looks like we may get to see another model from the performance arm later this year.

It is already common knowledge that the all-newBMW M2is imminent as it is set to fill the massive shoes of the F87-generation model. We've seen some spy pictures of the brand's smallest M car under heavy camouflage with aggressive body panels that are pleasantly distinctive from the current flagship of the 2 Series range, the M240i.

Speaking toAutoblogregarding the arrival of this model, BMW's North American CEO Sebastian Mackensen confirmed thatthe new M2will officially break cover sometime this year, although he didn't give specifics about which month it might arrive in. With this in mind, all things going well, you could be able to take delivery of one by 2023.

Frustratingly, Mackensen is not too generous regarding the technical details of the upcoming BMW M2 but recent reports suggest that it will take full advantage of the CLAR platform by employing the division's S58 twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six with a detuned 490-horsepower output. Thankfully, there is a strong chance that the option of a six-speed manual gearbox will also maintain its presence.
