But only 500 will be made.

This year marks the 110th anniversary of Alfa Romeo. To celebrate, the legendary Italian automaker is bringing back a legendary nameplate. While we were hoping Alfa Romeo wouldrevive the GTV coupe and 8C supercar, Alfa Romeo is instead returning to its roots: say hello to the newAlfa Romeo GiuliaGTA.

The GTA acronym stands for "Gran Turismo Alleggerita" (alleggerita is Itailan for "lightened"). The first model to get the GTA treatment was a racing version of the Giulia Sprint GTA back in 1965, which had an aluminium body bringing the weight down from 2,094 pounds to 1,642 pounds. With the new Giulia GTA, Alfa Romeo has applied a similar philosophy to improve the aerodynamics and reduce weight.

To improve the Giulia's aerodynamics, Alfa Romeo has partnered with Sauber Engineering and fitted the sports sedan with new side skirts, a GTA-specific rear spoiler, and an active front splitter. A carbon fiber rear diffuser houses a titanium Akrapovi exhaust system and the car rides on 20-inch center lock wheels. Elsewhere, the front and rear wheel tracks are 50 mm wider than the standard Giulia, giving the GTA version a more aggressive appearance while improving the handling at high speed. The suspension system also features new springs, shock absorbers and bushings.

Under the hood is the same 2.9 twin-turbo V6 that powers the regular Giulia. In the standard car, this unit produces 510, but Alfa Romeo has increased the power to 540 hp in the Giulia GTA thanks to "meticulous calibration work" by Alfa Romeo engineers. Inside, Alcantara is applied to the dashboard, door panels, glove compartment, side pillars and the central trim on the seats.

Compared to the standard car, the Giulia GTA is 220 pounds lighter thanks to the use of lightweight materials such as carbon fiber for the drive shaft, hood, roof, front bumper, front wheel arches, rear wheel arch inserts. Lightweight aluminum is also used in the engine, doors and suspension systems, and various other composite materials are used throughout. As a result, the Giulia GTA weighs around 3,350 pounds which, combined with the power increase, brings the weight/power ratio to 6.2 lb/hp, With launch control, 0-62 takes just 3.6 seconds.

Alfa Romeo is also offering a more track-focused version called the GTAm, which boasts more extreme aerodynamics, including a larger front splitter and a carbon rear wing.

也有更广泛的使用阿尔坎塔拉和the rear bench has been removed to store racing helmets and fire extinguisher, turning the Giulia into a two-seater despite having four doors. The interior also features a roll bar, Lexan (a unique polycarbonate resin drived from motorsports) windows replacing the side and rear glass and the door is opened with a belt instead of a handle. Despite these modifications, the GTAm is still road legal.

Production of the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA and Giulia GTAm will be limited to only 500 units in total. All owners will also receive a Bell helmet in a special GTA livery, a full racing set by Alpinestars (race suit, gloves and shoes) and a personalized Goodwool car cover. Alfa Romeo has so far only confirmed the Giulia GTA and Giulia GTAm for Europe, but there's still a chance they could come to the US. We're keeping our fingers crossed.
