Porsche Taycan Turbo S Gets A Complex Abstract Art Paint Job

The designer and owner is Ding Yi who is known for his single motif of drawing crosses.

Porsche continues to collaborate with renowned artists tocreate unique design schemes. The latest one-off is an abstractPorsche Taycan Turbo Sco-developed by the automaker's Sonderwunsch program with Ding Yi, a Chinese artist known for his signature single motif of drawing crosses.

Working instead on a Taycan Cross Turismo may be a missed opportunity, but the final product was interesting. With a base color of 914Olympblue from the Paint to Sample program, Yi detailed the hood, rear spoiler, and side mirrors with the painting "Appearance of Crosses 2022-2."

"What Ding Yi asked of us was the most complex paintwork that Porsche has ever executed," says Alexander Fabig, vice president of Individualization and Classic at Porsche. "The perfect reproduction of Ding Yi's picture on the body sections took many more times longer than the painting process for a series production car."

There is a design continuity as the painting was also used in the interior, particularly on the door panels, dashboard, and around the front cup holders. However, the entire painting was not integrated into the cabin, and only individual details were selected for reasons concerning space.

Since the program focuses on design and not tweaking powertrains, the abstract Taycan Turbo S should come with two electric motors capable of delivering 750 horsepower, enough to complete a zero to 60 mph acceleration run in 2.6 seconds. It also has an EPA-ratedrange of 222 miles.

But the EV will be driven by Yi at home, roaming around the streets of Shanghai in style produced by the creative collaboration that started in 2020.

"Working with Ding Yi was an extraordinary experience. His inspiration and passion exceeded our wildest imagination," says Michael Kirsch, president and CEO of Porsche China. "The raison d'etre of the Sonderwunsch program is to create exclusive cars for our customers. This gives us the ability to present a groundbreaking work of art together with Ding Yi."

As mentioned, this is only one of the many collaborations under the Sonderwunsch program. K-pop singer Jennie from Blackpink took delivery of her custom Taycan 4S Cross Turismo. Not all rollouts are for customers, though, as the bespokePorsche 911 based on Sally Carrerafrom the movie Cars was auctioned for $3.6 million for charity.
