2025 Mini Countryman Breaks Cover As Funky EV And ICE Crossover

An Adaptive Suspension system is optionally available and can lower the car by 0.6 inches. Depending on the driver's needs, the Countryman can be set up for sportier driving or a plusher, more relaxed feel. Customers can also choose between 19- or 20-inch wheels, which may be paired with sports tires.

If you're interested in maximizing range, Mini offers 17-inch aerodynamic wheels or 18-inch alloys. The Countryman boasts an integrated braking system, which provides superior performance and a more secure feeling during deceleration.

As for charging, Mini says the electric Countryman has an AC charging speed of 22 kW. Both models can use DC fast charging and top up their batteries from 10% to 80% in under 30 minutes. If the weather conditions are ideal, the battery will reach the optimal temperature for fast charging if the active navigation is set to a fast charging station.

But that's enough about what's under the skin. Let's look at the exterior design, which looks rather brilliant. It's modern, doesn't take itself too seriously, and retains the signature Mini styling cues.

It's a striking vehicle with short overhangs and a longer wheelbase. Despite the angular, upright design, the new Countryman is considerably more aerodynamic than its predecessor. It cuts through the air with a clean Cd value of 0.26 compared to the old model's figure of 0.31.

The octagonal grille dominates the front end of the electric Countryman. This houses a tiny radar sensor for the driver-assist systems. Mini notes the front design can vary based on the desired trim level. We can see a rose gold effect here, but on the Favored trim, for example, Vibrant Silver is used as an accent color.

LED lighting lends the Countryman even more character, particularly if equipped with the optional lighting signatures. This allows owners to switch between three designs, giving it an even more unique look.

Overall, the exterior styling is a success, and we think the new design language works as well on the Countryman as itdoes on the new Cooper Hatch.

Inside, the Countryman receives a new curved dashboard. Unusually, Mini has done away with the traditional driver's instruments. Buyers can opt for a head-up display which projects information onto the windscreen ahead. Mini has emphasized premium fittings made from recycled materials. For example, a textile fashioned out of recycled polyester covers part of the cabin.

The central round instrument, a nod to the original Mini, is the cabin's centerpiece. Occupants can operate the system via the touchscreen or with voice controls. The display has been moved closer to the front seats, making it easier to reach. With the Mini Operating System 9, it's sure to be a seamless and intuitive experience.

A practical toggle bar eliminates unnecessary clutter by placing all the controls in an easy-to-reach area. The compact gear selector, start/stop switch, volume control, and parking brake can all be found here.

This eliminates the need for a traditional gear selector, which means the center console now houses practical storage solutions. This includes larger cupholders, a new storage area under the toggle bar, and a wireless charger.

Passengers benefit from more space. The driver and front passenger benefit from an additional 1.18 inches of shoulder and elbow room. At the same time, the shoulder width for the rear seats has increased by an inch. Packing space is also generous for the segment. There's 16.2 ft³of packing space, but fold down the back bench, which grows to 51.2 ft³.

The rear bench can slide fore and aft so that owners can choose between more cargo space or rear legroom. The backrest can recline up to 12 degrees, allowing those in the rear to recline comfortably.

An optional glass roof creates the illusion of additional cabin space. Other options include sports seats with power seat adjustment and a memory function. Buyers can even specify a massage function, which isn't typical for the segment.

Four individual trim levels - Essential, Classic, Favoured, and JCW - each have a distinctive design and give customers plenty of choice regarding personalization.

Regarding technology, the Countryman is equipped with the brand'snew Intelligent Personal Assistant. Thanks to improved voice recognition, Mini claims it's never been easier to control various functions, including navigation, telephone, entertainment, and more. Over time, the personal Assistant grows smarter and learns the user's patterns. Eventually, it can perform daily tasks on repeated routes by itself.

Users can choose between two avatars: MINI, a stylized version of a Mini, or Spike,a tiny digital English Bulldogalready popular with fans.

The Countryman is packed full of the latest safety features and driver assists. Opt for the Driving Assistant Plus package, and the crossover receives active cruise control and a steering and lane assist system.

The Driving Assistant Professional package also introduces semi-automated Level 2 driving under particular circumstances. When taking a right exit, the vehicle uses its sensors and assistance systems to detect gaps in the traffic and can pull off a lane change to move towards the exit.

At speeds up to 37 mph, the Countryman can be operated semi-autonomously on motorways and highways. The driver can take their hands off the steering wheel but must be ready to take over at any time.

Pricing is yet to be announced, but we expect the 2024 Countryman to be priced above the current model's $32,650 starting price. We expect the new model to reach America sometime next year.
