Loads more space, technology, and style make this a much more compelling proposition than ever before.

  • All-new styling with more interior space
  • 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder develops up to 312 horsepower
  • 21-inch wheels offered on compact BMW for the first time
  • New Vegas Red Metallic paint
  • Pricing starts at $42,000
  • US launch in March 2024

BMW has unveiled the all-newX2, and it truly is an entirely new proposition compared to its F39 predecessor, which ended production last year. No longer is the X2 a prettier but less practical alternative to theX1; customers did not like paying more money for less space and similar features, and BMW has listened to them.

At launch, two models are on offer: an entry-level X2 xDrive28i and a hotted-up X2 M35i xDrive - both featuring a 2.0-liter turbo-four. In the former, 241 hp is available between 4,500-6,500 rpm, while peak torque is 295 lb-ft (1,500-4,000 rpm). The M35i variant provides 312 hp (5,750-6,500 rpm) and 295 lb-ft (2,000-4,500 rpm), making it the most powerful four-cylinder Munich has ever sold (alongside the X1).

Mechanical Upgrades

The 28i model achieves 0-60 mph in 6.2 seconds, while the M35i variant gets there a full second quicker. Feeding all four wheels on either model is a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic with a mechanical limited-slip differential and the Sport Boost function that maximizes acceleration for 10 seconds. Paddles behind the steering wheel appear on the M35i as standard and are optional on the 28i, and a convenient new feature is that the transmission will automatically shift into park when the engine is shut off.

In addition, both the suspension and steering components have been redesigned for improved handling and enhanced feedback and feel. Standard on the M35i and optional elsewhere is Adaptive M suspension, bolstering comfort and enhancing agility.

提供了快速Near-actuator车轮滑转限制er responses from the traction and stability control systems, but what of braking? The base model gets single-piston floating calipers front and rear but can be upgraded to four-piston fixed calipers in front with the M Sport package. The M35i gets the M Sport brakes as standard but can also avail itself of the M Compound brakes, appearing with gray calipers and an M logo. These are composed of four-piston, fixed-caliper brakes with 15.2-inch discs in front and single-piston floating calipers with 13-inch discs at the rear.

As standard, the 28i gets Style 867 19-inch wheels (20s optional), while the M35i features Style 873M 20-inch wheels (wheels up to 21 inches are optional for the first time on a compact BMW). This leads us nicely to styling elements.

Styling

To ensure this is not mistaken as a posh X1, the new X2 gets model-specific LED headlights and refreshed taillights, each incorporating a double arrow motif instead of the traditional semi-circles of BMWs of yore. The kidney grilles, with their hexagonal outline, draw inspiration from the X4 and X6, and this can be illuminated like on the 7 Series and other recent Bimmers as an option.

The lower section of the car features a black wraparound accent that can be matched with optional gloss black roof rails, and the rear end adds fake vents along with reflectors to create a sportier appearance. Flush door handles smooth the profile.

On the M35i version, a quad-exit exhaust layout complements the M wing mirrors. A sporty tailgate spoiler and a second, Gurney-style spoiler below the rear window complete the aggressive look. At the front of the M-lite model, horizontal dual-slat kidney bars once again borrow from the full-fat M catalog.

BMW has a brand-new color called Vegas Red Metallic for the new crossover, and this is one of several offerings. The base X2 will have access to two solid colors (probably Alpine White and Jet Black) and 11 metallic hues. The M35i gets a slightly smaller offering with one solid color and nine metallic, and we are told to expect two Frozen (matte) shades and "a broad spectrum" ofBMW Individual hues.

Inside, customers can opt for an expansive (28 x 27.6 inches) Panorama Skyroof with its multilayer electric roller blind. Buyers can choose from Black, Mocha, Oyster, Red/Black, or Atlas Gray/Smoke White Veganza faux leather finishes, while the M Sport package comes exclusively with Veganza and Alcantara in black with blue contrast stitching.

Four interior trim schemes are on offer, including a new Aluminum design with graphic accents and an M Sport-exclusive Aluminum Hexacube design.

Technology

The interior design takes inspiration from the BMW iX electric SUV, where the center console houses a newly designed gear selector toggle. Physical buttons also exist for volume control, hazard lights, and the parking brake, among other shortcuts. Ahead of this console, a space for two cupholders and a smartphone tray is worth a closer look. Thanks to a movable clasp, two smartphones can be wirelessly charged while sitting upright, making glances away from the road a little safer.

BMW iDrive 9 appears with QuickSelect, which negates the need to enter a submenu. Featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the Curved Display houses a 10.25-inch display alongside a 10.7-inch screen. Apartnership with AirConsole enables gamingwhen the car is stationary, with 10 titles available to play initially.

Space

Thanks to a body that is 7.6 inches longer, a wheelbase that is 0.9 inches longer, a width that has increased by 0.8 inches, and a 2.5-inch increase in height, the X2 is more capacious than ever. More shoulder and elbow room is promised in both rows and rear seat passengers get an extra inch for their knees.

With the rear seats in place, you get 25.3 cubic feet of cargo volume, but fold the 40:20:40 seats, and you get 51.7 ft3. Combined with several cubbies and storage trays, the X2 should be much easier to live with on school runs and road trips.

In conclusion, BMW has thrown the kitchen sink at the new "Sport Activity Vehicle," giving it features like Remote View that allows one to see what's happening in and outside the car from their phones and an enormous panoramic roof. A power tailgate, forward collision warning, active blind spot monitoring, active parking sensors, and privacy glass are all standard, and the options are even more impressive; buyers can use their phones as keys and can even customize the lighting sequence that initiates on unlocking the car.

With more room, unique styling, and loads of technology, the new X2 should be a big hit when it arrives in the US in March 2024. Before then, the worldwide public debut will take place at the Japan Mobility Show (nee Tokyo Motor Show) on October 26.

The X2 xDrive28i costs $42,000 at launch, while the M35i xDrive will set you back $51,400. Both prices exclude a $995 destination and handling fee.
