This could be the Tesla's biggest threat yet.

Nearly two years after theprototype was unveiled, the production version of theFisker Oceanis finally here, and it doesn't disappoint. Debuting at the LA Auto Show, Fisker's new electric crossover could be theTesla Model Y's biggest threat yet. Rather than an electric hatchback, the Fisker Ocean is designed to be a true electric SUV, with a sculpted exterior, sleek design lines, and a wide stance that enhances the handling and gives the EV a bolder presence.

Four trims will be available on the new Ocean. The base Sport trim will start at $37,499 before federal tax credits are applied, significantly undercutting the Tesla Model Y's current $58,990 MSRP, although itsprices keep fluctuating.

Powered by a front-wheel-drive single electric motor generating 275 horsepower, the base model offers an estimated EPA range of 250 miles based on Fisker's simulations. The sprint to 60 mph takes 6.9 seconds in the base version. Starting at $49,999, the Ultra trim has an all-wheel-drive dual-motor setup generating a combined 540 hp while offering up to 340 miles of range on a single charge according to Fisker's estimates. The extra electric motor reduces the 0-60 mph sprint time to 3.9 seconds.

At the top of the range, the Ocean Extreme uses the same dual electric motor setup boosted to 550 hp and will hit 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds. Starting at $68,999, the Extreme trim will last over 350 miles on a single charge. At launch, a special One edition will be available, limited to 5,000 units.

This limited-edition model costs the same as the Extreme trim and shares the same performance specifications but comes with standard 22-inch F3 SlipStream wheels, a commemorative digital signature, and a unique Big Sur Blue metallic finish exterior color option.

The Ocean Sport features Earth and Fun drive modes, while the Ultra and Extreme trims will gain an additional Hyper mode. An Off-Road mode will also be available in the Extreme and One trims as well. By activating California mode, available for the Ultra, Extreme, and One trims at the press of a button, all the windows are lowered and the sliding roof retracts, providing a convertible-style open-air driving experience.

Inside, the Ocean features a fully vegan interior with recycled materials made from fishing nets, t-shirts, and renewed rubber.

The main interior highlight, however, is the massive 17.1-inch central screen. By default, the screen is displayed in portrait mode when driving but can be rotated into a landscape when parked for watching media. Using a combination of radars, ultrasonic sensors, and cameras, Fisker's Intelligent Pilot system provides a slew of driver assists that vary depending on the trim. As standard, the top-of-the-range Extreme trim includes a 360-degree surround-view camera, automatic park assist, lane change assist, traffic jam assist, driver attention warning, traffic light/sign recognition, and more.

The 2023 Fisker Ocean will be manufactured by Magna-Steyr at a carbon-neutral factory in Graz, Austria. Fisker is already accepting orders that require a $250 deposit before production begins on November 17, 2022, exactly one year after the Ocean's LA Auto Show debut.
