Can adding bling breathe some life into the aging sedan?

The future isn't looking bright for theChrysler 300. After being on sale since 2011, the current version of the rear-wheel-drive luxury sedan isrumored to end productionthis year as demand for sedans has seen a sharp decline while the demand for SUVs and crossovers continue to increase. Despite its impending death, Mopar Insiders has discovered that Chrysler has updated the current 300C with a new chrome appearance package that gives the luxury sedan some added bling.

Available only for the 2020 Chrysler 300 Touring-L, the appearance package adds a platinum chrome grille and surround, chrome trim for the Chrysler wing and "300" badges and mirror caps, and chrome 20-inch aluminum wheels.

This new package will replace the standalone 20-inch wheel upgrade on Touring-L rear-wheel-drive models, but won't be available for AWD versions.

Orders for the 2020 Chrysler 300 Touring-L Chrome Appearance Package are already open in the US with a price tag of $995. This, of course, is on top of the $30,040 base price of the 2020 Chrysler 300 Touring-L. Slotting in between the entry-level Touring and 300S trims, the 2020 Chrysler 300 Touring-L is powered by a 3.6-liter V6 that sends 292 hp and 260 lb-ft to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.

All-wheel drive is also optional, while a more powerful 5.7-liter V8 engine rated at 363 hp and 394 lb-ft of torque is available for the 300S and offered as standard for the 300C. This unit sends power exclusively to the rear wheels.

Last year, Chrysler also introduced a sport appearance package for the range-topping Chrysler 300C that adds styling cues from the 485-hp Chrysler 300 SRT. Does this latest appearance package suggest there's still life left in the ancient luxury sedan? Comments made by FCA passenger car brands Steve Beahm last year hint that the Chrysler 300may not be ready to diejust yet. "You know, in terms of its (sales) performance, it's doing great," he said. "We like where it's positioned; it provides great value. It's a lot of car for the money."
