2011 Toyota Highlander - Toyota's Most Popular SUV

Industry News /Comments

The 2011 Toyota Highlander is the Japanese carmaker's second generation of the immensely popular SUV that's been going strong since the first generation was unveiled. The 2011 Highlander sports a few changes and is available in two trim levels, but no major redesign until 2014 or 2015. The 2011 Highlander continues to offer the choices of V4 and V6 engines, as well as the popular hybrid teamed with a V6.

The engine will 270 horsepower in the V6 3.5-liter engine and be either a front wheel drive or rear wheel drive. Though the Highlander is an SUV and is available with AWD, it is not really built for off-roading and performance off the beaten path does not do well against the competition. EPA ratings claim that the Highlander will achieve 20/27 mpg city/highway for the base model. The interior of the Highlander is designed to seat up to seven passengers, but the third row seating is very small and designed for children primarily.

The base, Sport and Limited will be equipped with comfortable interior that have been seen on the Highlander since its caption. The basic interior of the Highlander includes a tilt steering wheel, a CD stereo system, full power accessories and air conditioning. The Limited offers an auto dimming rearview mirror, leather, dual zone climate control, a wood interior trim, and a power passenger and driver seats. The SUV market is still tough and the competitors of the Highlander include the Ford Flex, and Chevrolet Traverse.

The Traverse offers more space on the interior for larger families, but neither of the competitors offer a better all around vehicle than the 2011 Toyota Highlander.
