2,000-HP Super SUV Drag Race: Lamborghini Urus Vs. Jeep Trackhawk

Video /4 Comments

This drag race is a different European versus American car battle.

The European versus American car comparison is an age-old battle. It's a debate that often involves sports cars, but this time, it's a drag race between two hulking SUVs - a 1,010-horsepowerLamborghini Urusand a 1,011-hpJeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk.

Featured on the Gumbal YouTube channel, which usually focuses on supercars, these two hulking four-figure SUVs are ready to lay it all down to settle this battle in two parts. The first is a standing half-mile drag, and the second occurs over a 1,500-foot stretch from a rolling start at the Euro-based Race 1000 drag event.

First, let's look at the contenders.

Neither is stock and in the case of the Urus, its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 was modded to produce 353 hp more than the "normal" 657-hp Urus Performante.

The Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, meanwhile, is an all-American hero whose 6.2-liter supercharged V8 can generate 707 hp in stock form, or at least it could when it was still on sale. Unfortunately, Stellantisdropped the beast from its lineupwhen introducing the all-new fifth-genGrand Cherokee. But the one featured here makes 304 hp more than that.

So how did it go? Well, the roll and standing start races were pretty close. The Trackhawk's driver, however, did show that he had quite impressive reaction times as he handily defeated the Italian-made SUV on multiple runs by virtue of getting off the line quickly.

Later in the video, the American-made monster faced a BMW 140i - the inline-six-powered hatchback equivalent of the 2 Series Coupe. This was a mismatch, as the driver had quicker reaction times on the standing start run. We also reckon the Bimmer had far less power than the high-performance SUV.

Seeing monsters like this battle it out is a hoot. The large rides might not be everyone's cup of tea, but remember that we are currently in transition where pure combustion giants like this are starting to disappear in favor of hybrids or fully electric power. The Urus, for example, has already beenconfirmed to go hybrid in 2024.
